Dr Rajay Rampersad

Dr Rampersad was raised in Sydney, continuing on to study medicine at UNSW. Initially starting surgical training in General Surgery, he gained entry to Paediatric Surgical training which he completed in early 2015. His training has taken him through city and rural settings in 4 states and territories in Australia, including a year in Darwin with significant exposure to indigenous health. The final 2 years of training were at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne.

 

Following his entry into the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, he moved to Birmingham Children's Hospital, one of the largest children's hospitals in the UK where he undertook further advanced training in Paediatric Urology, Thoracic Surgery and Oncology.

Dr Rampersad is one of a handful of Australian's who have successfully completed the European Paediatric Urology Fellowship exams - one of the few formal Paediatric Urology training programs in the world. He has also completed further training in complex minimally invasive surgery. 

​

Moving back to Australia in 2017, he accepted a position at Canberra Hospital, and now calls Canberra home. 

 

In addition to work in Canberra, Dr Rampersad travels regularly to the Solomon Islands to provide Paediatric Surgery and Urology operations and teaching to local staff. He also helps out with complex paediatric surgical patients brought to Canberra Hospital from the Pacific for their further care (organised through the ROMAC organisation in partnership with Canberra Hospital).

 

When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife, 5 kids and dog, and the occasional (highly competitive!) game of squash with friends.
