Dr Abdel-Latif Mohamed

My Story

Professor Abdel-Latif Mohamed is a consultant paediatrician and neonatologist with extensive experience in newborn and infant care. He provides specialist assessment and management for babies from birth through early childhood, with a focus on early development and supporting families through the first months of life.

He trained in paediatrics and neonatology across Sudan, Malaysia, Australia and the United Kingdom, and holds fellowships with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), Australia and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), UK. He is currently based at The Canberra Hospital and Calvary John James Hospital, where he works within the neonatal service caring for preterm and unwell newborns.

In addition to his clinical work, Professor Mohamed holds academic appointments at the Australian National University (ANU) Medical School and leads research in perinatal and neonatal medicine. His work focuses on improving outcomes for preterm infants, including large multicentre studies, epidemiological research, and the development of evidence-based tools to support clinical decision-making.

His clinical interests include newborn assessment, growth and development, feeding concerns, and follow-up of term and preterm infants. He takes a clear, practical, and family-centered approach, aiming to provide reassurance while identifying concerns early.

He is actively involved in teaching and supervision of medical students and junior doctors, and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals in neonatal and perinatal medicine.
